While the Grand Egyptian Museum has started its trial operations—allowing visitors to explore the Grand Staircase, the commercial area, and the hanging obelisk—the full collection, including the Tutankhamun galleries, is scheduled for a grand opening. It is a "must-visit" for its state-of-the-art displays and architectural splendor.
A 9 to 10-day itinerary is usually perfect. This allows for 3 to 4 days in Cairo to cover the Pyramids and Islamic/Coptic sites, and a 3 to 4-night Nile Cruise to visit the major temples between Aswan and Luxor, with travel days included.
