This private full-day tour from Aswan focuses on ancient Nubia. You start at the Nubian Museum, which covers Nubian history from prehistoric times through the pharaonic and Christian periods, and the effort to save the region's temples from the rising water of Lake Nasser. You then take a short boat ride across the lake to the Temple of Kalabsha, one of the largest free-standing temples of Lower Nubia, which was moved stone by stone to its island when the High Dam was built. A private Egyptologist guide, hotel pickup and an air-conditioned vehicle are included.
Full Day: Nubian Museum and Kalabsha Temple
Your day starts with a pickup from your Aswan hotel. At the Nubian Museum your guide walks you through its collection of statues, jewellery, tools and everyday objects that trace Nubia's long history and the work to save its monuments from Lake Nasser. You then drive to the lakeshore and take a short motorboat ride to the island Temple of Kalabsha, dedicated to the Nubian sun god Mandulis, where you explore its gateway, courtyard and columned hall with views over the water. You return by boat and your driver takes you back to your hotel.
